Construction Services-Bridge Balancing:
Maple Street Bridge
Brunside Bridge, Portland OR (2019)
FEG provided strain gauge balance testing and rehab construction balance calculations for this double leaf bascule bridge. Particular services included installation of strain gauges, high-speed data acquisition of strain data, determination of initial and final balance conditions, and span balance calculations.
Bicentennial Bridge, Benton Harbor, MI (2020)
FEG provided balance testing services for this hydraulically driven bascule bridge. For this type of drive system, we utilized hydraulic pressures and high-speed data acquisition to determine the structure balance condition. For this project, we provided initial and final balance testing and on-going balance calculations.
Snake Creek Bridge, Monroe County, FL (2019)
For this project, FEG was contracted to provide verification testing of the bridge structure after a minor rehabilitation. We provided field strain gauge testing and submitted a summary report of the bridge balance conditions.

Construction Services-Control System Integration:
Southern Blvd Bridge, Fort Lauderdale, FL (2018-2020)
For this project, FEG is providing control systems integration services related to the complete replacement of all electrical and mechanical equipment associated with a double leaf bascule bridge. Our responsibilities included shop drawing development/review of all electrical and mechanical submittals prior to review by the EOR, review of RFIs, development of shop testing and field functional test procedures, and facilitating of these shop and field test. Further responsibilities included startup assistance and final operational testing.
Andrews Ave. Bridge, Fort Lauderdale, FL (2018-2020)
FEG is providing the full Control System Integration/Engineering for this single leaf bascule bridge rehabilitation. The design included the full electrical and partial mechanical replacement. Our responsibilities included shop drawing development/review of all electrical and mechanical submittals prior to review by the EOR, and review of RFIs. For equipment testing prior to delivery to the site, FEG will development shop testing and field functional test procedures and facilitate tests. Further responsibilities included startup assistance and final operational testing.
Design:
Sheridan Street Bridge, Fort Lauderdale, FL (2020-2022)
The scope of this project is a nearly full replacement of the electrical and mechanical systems. The new control system utilizes a “control rail” rather than a conventional control desk. Relay logic with PLC monitoring will be utilized for bridge operations. The drive system is hydraulic with variable speed controlled pumps. Submarine cables are installed in HDPE ducts via direction bore.
